Everything is about convenience these days. Our buildings used to be beautiful (look at fairly big European cities), contrasting to the new concrete boxes that have been built in the last decades. It's convenient: they are cheaper and you can live in them. Is this minimalism? Are the new buildings minimalist? Yes... and no. For me, minimalism is having a clear understanding of what matters to you, and acknowledging that most things are not actually important. So, if we live in a society in which convenience is more important than beauty, yes. The new buildings are minimalist. However, if a society considers essential to have beautiful cities or to have more nature around, then having buildings like this is not minimalism. It's simple, but it misses the point of what is important in that context.
